Luella & George Shaver Family Scholarship
Congratulations to Cassie Hansen who received the 2012 Luella & George Shaver Family Scholarship. The Luella and George Shaver Family Scholarship is given to an outstanding Girl Scout who best demonstrates the same qualities that Luella Shaver, a longtime, dedicated volunteer showed in her life as a Girl Scout. The scholarship began in 1982 and is awarded each year to an exceptional graduating Girl Scout Ambassador who earned her Girl Scout Gold Award. It is awarded for educational pursuits, such as college, vocational training and/or apprenticeship programs at an accredited school. The scholarship recipient is determined by a special committee and panel of judges, including Luella’s daughters Mary and Zizi Shaver.
About Luella Shaver
Luella Shaver started with one Girl Scout troop but soon was leading three troops! Her deep dedication to Girl Scouting was apparent in the remembrance shared by her daughter, Mary, that quitting piano lessons could be tolerated but quitting Girl Scouts – never! Luella also served in several leadership roles and was well known and loved as she exemplified true Girl Scout values and vision. The family has established an endowment to ensure that the Luella and George Shaver Family Scholarship Fund will be available forever.

Arlene Johns Memorial Gold Award Scholarship
This scholarship has been established to recognize an outstanding Gold Award recipient and allow her to continue her education. Scholarship monies awarded may be used for college, university, technical, vocational or trade schools and is not limited to schools in the State of Oregon.
About Arlene Johns
Arlene Johns was a long time member of Girl Scouts of Western Rivers Council, one of the legacy councils that forms Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington. Mrs. Johns served as a troop leader and her troop members were among the first to achieve Gold Awards in Western Rivers Council. As an active Board member, she represented the interests of the girls. Arlene was a member of the Silver and Gold Operating Team and mentored many young women, encouraging them always to seek the best in themselves. It is in her memory and honor that this scholarship is given. The funding for this scholarship came from the Johns Family, Mrs. Johns’ employer, Bud Johnson of Acme Collision, the Springfield business community and many, many friends in Girl Scouts.
