Outdoor Skills Training is an important step in outdoor training
progression for adult volunteers. This hands-on training prepares
adults how to teach Girl Scouts the intricacies of managing a campsite
at an established site. You will learn to teach Girl Scouts how to
safely use outdoor tools, strike and use matches, light wood fires and
propane stoves, split wood, safely use knives, set up camp, set up
tents, prepare for sleeping in the outdoors, and complete all the meal
preparation and clean-up so by the time your troop goes camping, the
Girl Scouts will be taking themselves. After taking this training,
expect to spend six months or more teaching and equipping a troop with
these skills. This training is required for any overnight trip that
does not have heat, electricity, and/or flush toilets. This training
is also required if food is cooked with fire, propane, or coals.
