Join us for a hands-on, learning-packed weekend where you will learn how to teach your Girl Scouts how to take themselves (and you) on an outdoor trip! This training will prepare you to lead your Girl Scouts through the progression needed to have successful, outdoor trips that empower them to be even more confident, courageous, and strong! After taking this training, expect to spend six months or more teaching and equipping a troop with these skills. This training is required for any overnight trip that does not have heat, electricity, and/or flush toilets. This training is also required if food is cooked with fire, propane, or coals.

This training has been generously subsidized by the Theda Family Endowment for member year 2025.

Objectives/Outcomes of this training:
Learn how to teach your Girl Scouts how to:

  • Safely use outdoor tools and knives
  • Strike and use matches
  • Split wood
  • Light wood fires and propane stoves
  • Complete meal preparation and clean-up
  • Set up camp and tents
  • Prepare for sleeping outdoors
  • By the time your troop goes camping, the Girl Scouts will be taking themselves!

Note: This is an entirely outdoor training, and you will spend the night sleeping in your tent outside.
