They earn this by teaming up with other Juniors or peers to make a difference in their community. The Bronze Award is the first of the Girl Scout Highest Awards that a girl can earn. As Juniors, Girl Scouts partner closely with their troop leaders or their Juliette mentor to explore their community, discover a need or issue they care about, and work together to address it. Leaders can check in with Girl Scout Juniors to learn what they care about and notice if there are any issues or needs that line up with these interests. For example, if they are passionate about animals, they may notice that a local shelter needs help getting pets adopted or help with food or blankets. The goal is to ignite a spark of interest that will get them excited to make a positive change in their community.
Girl Scouts must complete a Junior Journey before starting a Bronze Award project. This helps them grow their leadership skills in preparation for this award. Through completing the Journey, they may become motivated and excited to pursue the Bronze Award.
These projects are usually done in a group. Troop leaders and parents approve the projects, and a final report is turned in to GSOSW to buy their pins. Bronze Award projects require a minimum of 20 hours of effort per Girl Scout.
We have lots of resources to help girls and their supporting adults on our Bronze Award webpage, so be sure to check it out for more info! Check out a recording of a Bronze Award workshop for adults to help walk you through what it takes to guide your Girl Scouts to success.
Each year, our council holds a special ceremony and reception for Girl Scout Gold Award recipients. Girl Scouts who have earned their Silver or Bronze Award may also be honored at this event. These events are open to the community, and attending a GOLD celebration is a great way for all Girl Scouts to get inspired by the leadership and service of their fellow Girl Scouts.
