Social-Emotional Needs in Elementary Schools

Elsa focused her Gold Award project on elementary school-age children's social and emotional needs. Working directly with teachers, Elsa created "quiet corners" in several Kindergarten classrooms, stocking the area with materials such as fidgets, calming cards, and helpful videos for students created by her team. Elsa's goal was to help these students improve their focus and emotional control and thus be able to learn more successfully.
